Prevention

When it comes to keeping your windscreen frost free for your morning commute one of the best ways is to prevent the ice forming in the first place. Covering your windscreen with a cloth or sheet will stop the ice forming on your windscreen. In order to keep it flush against the glass you can use the wiper blades to help hold it in place. I would also recommend tucking the sheet into your front doors to help keep it secure over night. This will Keep the ice at bay and is quite possibly the easiest was to de-ice without scraping your windscreen.

De-Icing

Plan B is the use of lukewarm water liberally poured over the windscreen to melt the ice. A warning though, DO NOT USE HOT WATER. Using water that is too hot can crack your windscreen. The drastic change in temperature is difficult for the glass to handle, the last thing you need is to replace your windscreen.

Another popular method is to use any one of the numerous de-icing sprays that are available from almost everywhere this time of year. All of them will de-ice without scraping, but they can get used up very quickly.

The Hands-Off Approach

This leaves you free to stay warm in your house or just sit in the car and listen to music whilst you wait for your vision to be restored.
You can also install a remote start on your car, though this can be quite expensive.

Remember that if your car is covered in snow you should remove all of it before starting your journey. This is because chunks of ice and snow can fly off your vehicle whilst driving and hit another vehicle. If it its someones windscreen this could potentially be very dangerous.
