The alternator works by converting the mechanical energy created by the engine’s crankshaft into electrical energy. This process is known as induction. A rotor sits inside wound copper wire within the alternator. While you’re driving, the rotor spins around to create an electrical charge that provides energy to charge the battery. This in turn supplies power to your car time and time again. If your car stalls while you’re driving or it fails to start, it could be the alternator rather than the battery that is at fault. This is most likely if the battery is relatively new. A clear sign of a faulty alternator are the letters ‘ALT’ or ‘GEN’ showing up in the form of a light on your dashboard. Another sign of this is headlights that change erratically from bright to dim while running. Swap your faulty alternator with a high-quality example from Car Parts 4 Less. We offer first-class alternators at no-frills prices.
