An AC system in a vehicle works by way of an evaporator turning liquid refrigerant into cool air to pump into the interior. The component that controls the flow of this refrigerant is the expansion valve. Too much liquid refrigerant and it will freeze inside the evaporator. Too little liquid refrigerant and the evaporator will not have a sufficient supply to do its job and create cool air. This means that a faulty expansion valve can make for an uncomfortable driving experience at best and an expensive repair at worst if it is left unfixed. It is a simple problem to diagnose and straightforward part to replace – just be sure to search with the make and model of your vehicle here to find the right valve.
